CSAs

The concept of CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) started in Europe and Japan in the 1960s to help farmers prepare for their growing season in partnership with their customers. This practice started in the United States in 1984. By providing a guaranteed market through prepaid annual sales, consumers essentially help to finance farming operations. This allows farmers to focus on quality growing, and also levels the playing field in a food market that favors large-scale, industrialized agriculture over local food.

Our CSA began rather humbly several years ago. As the local agriculture movement has grown, we now have about 60 members. Members pay for their shares ahead of time, which enables the us to hire staff, purchase seeds, repair tractors, equipment, and tools months before we can bring our produce to the markets. This "share risk" arrangement creates a true partnership between us and the CSA member. In return, each week we bring down food from our farm to our various CSA-drop off locations.

All pesticide-free vegetables and pesticide-free and IPM fruit are picked up the day before.

The CSA season is divided into four (4) once-a-week sessions:

  • June-July (Thursday or Saturday)
  • August-September (Thursday or Saturday)
  • October (Thursday or Saturday)
  • November (Saturday only)

Early Bird (on or before April 30):

  • $337.50 (9-week session)
  • $300.00 (8-week session)

After April 30:

  • $360.00 (9-week session)
  • $320.00 (8-week session)

Ravenhook Bakehouse (Limited to Saturday Takoma Park CSA only):

For an extra $6.00, we will again offer "baker's choice" weekly loaves. Let us know if you want to add the bread. If you want to do less than weekly, please indicate which weeks you want to pick up and prorate accordingly. If this is confusing, call me and we'll talk about it. 301-587-1739 (landline).

Payment Methods:

  • Check - make out to Licking Creek Bend Farm
  • Venmo – Michael-Tabor-21 (if you need the 4-digit # 6281)

Early Bird:

If you start off with an early-bird price, we will honor that throughout the season as long as we get your payment before each session begins. If not, then the regular price will apply for that session.

Prorating:

If you know before you pay for each session that you won't be picking up on particular dates, prorate your amount and make sure you write the dates you will not pick up on your form. This is essential for our weekly counts.

Credit:

We do not give cash refunds. As is our practice, if you let us know in advance you will not be picking up that week, we will give you credit towards the next session. (In advance means before 7:00pm Thursday for Saturday pick ups, and before 7:00pm Wednesday, for Thursday pick ups.)
